Before the surgery.....
My guinea pig just got over bladder stone. It all started a week ago when Panda started whining (usually at night) and was waking me up. At first I thought nothing was wrong but then I watched him and sure enough he started whining and crying. When he did whine, he would sit up in a weird position. Then on Wednesday night (last week) I went out with my friends. Pandas crying got worse. My mom said she wouldn't let him take this anymore. So she called the vet and took panda to the animal hospital. The vet said Panda had bladder stone. And its so big it would have to be removed by surgery, or Panda will be put down. I had just got home and mom told me all this. I said right away to do the surgery. Panda is my little friend and I just cant let him go now. Mom said the surgery is $500! And she just spent half of that walking into the doors of the animal hospital! So I told her to chip into my account.
Bladder stone is like human kidney stone. Its when the body produces too much calcium. The surgery was on Thursday morning. The vet says he's done many bladder stone surgery's on cats, but never on a guinea pig. But he said it should be no different. At night he could barely lay down, when he tried it caused him too much pain and he stood right back up. He was really stressed out.
After the surgery
I have to give him medicine every day. He's been so tired and worn out. But the vet said the surgery went well. He closed panda up with staples instead of stitches. He did staples because he didnt want Panda biting at the stitches out. In about a week we'll send Panda to the vet again to get the staples removed. Panda doesn't want to be bothered at all right now. when he had the bladder stone it hurt to lay down. Now he finally can and you can just tell from looking at him that he's just tired. I just gave him his medicine and he's not okay, now that he's awake I can really check him out. He's digging. Every now and then he'll take a paw and just dig. I asked my mom about this and she said he's acting weird because he's drugged. I knew that but I didnt think it would last that long! He can barely walk, and he cant keep himself up straight. When he stands he leans to one side. Mom said it will probably be a week until he's his normal self again. Panda wont eat either. The only thing I've offered him that he will eat was brockley. He even refused the carrots!
