Sounds Terrible, but this is not a spine injury, but refers to a skin problem that can cause alot of pain and irritation. This example is quite high up on the shoulders of little Tundra. . These sores may be the stubben hot spots that seem to cause a lot of stress after a mite or fungal infection, a result of the heal - itch - scratch vicious circle. Or it may be the only affected part of the skin, every where else seems clear. It may also happen to pregnant and nursing sows a result of hormones Treatment is started by trimming the coat very carefully from around the affected skin. This stopps the hairs irritating the sores. Then Aloe Vera gel is applied with a tiny amount of lavender oil added and mixed in. Tundra is a very interesting colour, dark eyes - with eye liner, and dark ears. she is sabled in colour along her back and a little sabling on her face. Something that will look much better once her back heals up.

Where did you get the aloe vera and lavender oil? Are they sold specifically for cavys or will those sold for people work?
Trying to build up my pet med box, just in case

We make up the aloe vera and lavender gel mix. Lavender is a great oil to have in your med's cabinet, for you as well as your pigs. May help burns and scalds, insect bites and stings, antiseptic, it reduces inflammation and is antiseptic.
The aloe vera gel is soothing and cooling for itchy inflamed skin.
For 10mls Aloe vera gel add 2 drops essential oil of lavender. Mix well and keep in a small container with a seal-able lid. This type of container can usually be bought at chemists and Aromatherapy shops.
There is a list of the med's we have in theUKPCC forums on this site
