Well, it has become rather obvious to us that Gingy is quite pregnant. While this would normally be a joyous time for us, we are not quite as happy as we should be. Being that we are noticing her become more and more pear shaped, she is quite far along. Which means, of course, that Shrek is not the father, as we've only acquired the new pigs a short time ago. They were seperated while quarentined. We had the females in one cage and poor Chino all alone on the other side of the hospital cage we use to quarentine, before they were intro'd to Shrek and moved into the larger cage. So.....she must have been preg when we got her from the breeder. The only way I see this possible is that the females we picked (Mocha and Gingy) were in a large cage with two other females who had recently had pups. The pups looked 3-4 weeks old and the breeder was planning to seperate them later that day. Is it possible that a 4 week old pup got Gingy pregnant? We are somewhat upset, as now we have no idea what pups we will get! One of the other females was an angora, but I'm not sure what the other was. This is the only timeline possibility that makes sence to me. So, based on her current size, I estimate arrivals within the next month. I guess the surprise of waiting to see what we get will be a little fun, but its not what we'd planned, so I guess we'll wait and see. Sigh...

3 had longer hair (so I'm guessing angoras) and of the other 4 babies, they looked to have longer hair, but with a rosette on there heads and obvious roaning and spots? Maybe roan or dalmation coronets? I was in awe because they were so unique looking, but worried about lethals due to the roaning or dalmation in them. One mom was a longer haired black and the other was all white.
I'm confused! I wonder if this breeder bred a lethal, because breeding a lethal would produce 100% roan/dalmation babies no matter what it was bred to...right?
So, if a roan/dalmation bred with Gingy, we could then be in danger of a litter of 25% lethals...am I right? This is something we know of, but planned to avoid, because I don't think I'd be able to euthanize a new pup, but then again, I couldn't let them starve to death either. I sure hope I'm all wrong here....

Gingy does not look like a roan in the photos. The chance of a hidden roan ie looks like normal non roaning. is slim.
Breeding a microthalmic (if it can be done) will result in 50% dals/roans and 50% microthalmics. But it would be almost impossable as the lethal genes carry the possibily of many deformaties.

THanks. I feel a little better. I just don't want to have to deal with micro's/lethals. We've done really good until now to avoid the whole problem, so this was a real worry to us. Thank you for easing my mind a little.

If she has been mated by a roan/dal, then she may have roan/dal babies 50% roan/dal - 50% non roan/dal. but no micro's.

Thats great. Not what we planned, but better than getting micros I suppose. I guess a roan tri color would be kinda cute too...maybe we can add a good one to our breeding program since we know it wouldn't be related to any of the males we have...I guess it will be a wait and see game now....but thank you for putting my mind at ease on the micros.
