Guinea Pigs have a digestive system that depends a lot on 'friendly' or good bacteria in their cecum and Colon (large intestine) where cellulose and fiber are broken down into useful substances, which the guinea pigs system can make use of. To maintain this balance and use vitamin b complex vitamins that were not absorbed in the digestive process, guinea pigs eat their own feces. This is coprophagia. Guinea pigs produce two types of droppings the ones you see when you clean out your guinea pigs pen, and softer droppings which they eat. You will see your guinea pig duck their head down to their rear end and come back up chewing. Related topic: Hind Gut Digestioncopyrights©angelwyche
